SPANIARDS END
The new house is on a site which once formed the grounds of 'The Firs' designed by architect Patrick Gwynne and was the clients' childhood home. Memory of 'The Firs' inspired the design of the new house in its materiality and the relationship between key rooms and the landscape. It is conceived as a light timber 'treehouse' with views to tree canopies, supported on a base of concrete 'fragments' which allows the surrounding garden to permeate the ground floor and provide settings for artworks and artefacts.
