Scrovegni Chapel. Padua

If I was forced to choose just one space to visit I would choose this one - the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua. It is my #1

favourite space and I was lucky enough to go today. Covered entirely with frescoes by the master painter Giotto painted between 1303 and 1305 it is a masterpiece of western art and groundbreaking in terms of its representation of humanity, expression and perspectival space. The main frescoes depict the Life Cycles of Christ and the Virgin Mary with the Last Judgement in the entrance wall. I like it because of its beauty, intensity and significance and also architecturally for the simplicity and humble quality of the space which forms the background to paintings and simple openings in the walls to allow natural light to enter. The whole thing is breathtaking and I recommend everyone to see it if you possibly can.
